The internet is celebrating national Kiss a Ginger day with waves of humorous memes and hilarious jokes about the hair color.
People have been flocking to Twitter to commemorate the holiday – which takes place on January 12 – with some posting pictures of themselves kissing their orange cats, and others sharing snaps of their favorite red-headed celebrities.
The holiday was started in 2009 on Facebook by a guy named Derek Forgie, after the show South Park created an entire episode dedicated to bashing orange hair.
And although it was meant to be a joke, the controversial 2005 episode fueled a lot of real-life hate for gingers.
So much so, that singer Ed Sheeran recently claimed the cartoon ‘f**king ruined’ his life.

‘Having red hair in England was always a thing that people took the piss out of you for, but it was never something in America,’ he said.
‘People never knew what a ginger was in America. That episode of ‘South Park’ f**king ruined my life.
‘I was going to America and everyone was like, “I love your hair dude.” And I was like, “Oh my God, people like my hair?”
‘And then I remember that episode coming out and that was just it worldwide for the rest of my life.’
